This picture was taken from atop the Arab castle outside of Palmyra. It helps to provide an appropriate sense of the size of the city. You can see the colonnaded street starting in the lower right of the picture and extending up through the middle of the picture. And yes, that is a bus in the lower right corner of the picture. The large complex in the upper half of the picture is the Temple of Bel and the surrounding walls.
